hummm...with 3 Ms

i just like happy songs. and humming tunes. and singing songs, and laughing songs, and singing songs

that song is just plain cute. it's from Spring Awakening, whose album art can be seen in earlier posts. the choreography is just bubbly and cute. and just dorky enough. there are also pretty harmonies that i, being one voice, cannot replicate. but oh well

i feel like singing some more. besides, they're all short little songs. and you always have the option to just not watch them! but if you do watch them i certainly won't mind :)

still not a good idea

you don't get to see me today. because i am a mess. hopefully the vocals aren't!

the song of course, is about the constant motion that defines a city. buses, cars, and trains, and more. so in the picture i am on a boat :)

it's a brilliant little ditty and quite a mouthful to perform!
and now that i think of it, the first sondheim i've recorded.

take a listen :)

here's how to find some other cool peole jamming on it

as you may know, i am a filmed musical SNOB. i usually just don't approve because live theater is meant to be watched live. this one, however, is pretty well done.

and my personal favorite:

she's in In The Heights now, and she's FIERCE :)

that's all for now!

this is a terrible idea

but here goes. this song was on somebody's wall and i really just feel like singing. it's really quiet because people sleep in my house, but we'll see what we can do.

i adore the show it is from. while i will never be in it (because i cannot dance to save my life), i love to sing it! the songs are mor real than a lot of other musicals out there, and the story is about people like me and you. you know, actors. :)

enjoy!

oh yeah, it's from A Chorus Line. the role is based on the FABULOUS PLo-Priscilla Lopez, who is one of the most talented people i have ever met. also she is a broadway BAMF in evrey sense of the word.

this is where it's at.

the old:

and the new.

both are great. while i adore my cast (the new one), there is something really special about this OBC. i mean they are the very people it's based on. those hours of tape that michael bennet took of them are the very foundation of this show.

on that topic, this is one case (who am i kidding i always say this! except about chicago. that movie is brilliant beyond words.) where i really implore you not to watch the movie. i really don't think the lives of stage actors can be encompassed in film, especially not this show. it is so rooted in the lives and struggles of theater people, and the stage is such an important medium for it. that just gets lost.

HOWEVER, I ABOSOLUTELY RECOMMEND YOU SEE "EVERY LITTLE STEP," which is a breathtaking documentary of the audition process for the broadway revival of this show. they literally did the first cutting down based on "walk in, do two pirouettes, walk out." it's AMAZING, it's real, it's passionate, it's brilliant.
my favorite part is seeing who they didn't take. among the favorites were then-dancer andy blankenbuehler (who despite not being cast in a chorus line now has a shiny tony award for choreographing In The Heights), Amy Spanger, Niki Snelson (these names only make sense if you speak broadway), alll these people turned away, who we know to be stars. it proves like Diana says in the song, that if you want something, go find a better CAST! :)

that's enough from me. the having-no-voice makes me type so much. i'm just a communicator, what can i say.

not 5 girls singing

there goes my brother in the background...i'm closing my eyes and picking a song

props to Ann-Marie Milazzo and her brilliant vocal arrangements. that are not evident from this recording as i am one person, not 5. i'll have to go play garageband if i wanna make all 5 happen. there should be a tony for vocal arrangements. although i guess it's part of orchestrations. these took me such a long time to figure out! but now i love them. they're so well constructed over each other, although they all require an astounding vocal range! for example, ilse, whose songs suggest that she is the alto role, is on the melody. that chick gotta have range!

if i ever wind up in a she-cappella group rest assured this song will happen. maybe even in coed...who knows

the album art of course is already up. for some choice soloists, see me :)

now i'm listening to old school versions of this song...i have some good ones! it's just so pretty. the original mama song is such a great opener. it has the right rhythms and melodic quality, and then to couple it with the bouncy counterpart is just...great. solid opening, messrs. sheik and sater

PS this is my favorite wendla. whose camp are you in???

again, but different

Some sisters you know said that my Jenn was also decent. I'm not sure who to believe anymore. but i think her voice is mad fly. someone once described her to me as sounding like a computer, except not. her tones are gorgeous and full, and i loves them

this song is equally fly. it is in 11/4 for crying out loud! (well not actually. it's written with time changes because playing 11/4 on the go like that would be...hard. there's an npr segment somewhere in which lin-manuel miranda (who is newly engaged!!!!!! go lin!) and tom kitt discuss the song.)
(oh here it is: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=105701828. lin's interviewing kitt and kander!!!! so cool)
i remember the first time i heard it and flipped out. it's so lyrical and flowing, and i'm just thinking "4 for you tom kitt you go tom kitt!". regardless of what people said to me on june 8th, my response was "tom kitt has two tony awards. your point is invalid."

enough banter. i'm pressing play.

(i so do not sound like Jenn! i'm also not necessarily trying to. if you want my Jenn impersonation, just ask me!)
also, ignore my flitting eyes! i've realized that one of the things i like about theatricality. your eyes should shift focus to include the entire audience. film is focused on singular points. which is awkward to do when you're blogging from the comfort of your rug and laptop.

oh, and sorry about those cracks :)

PS go see this show!!! it's brilliant! they have lotto, and the rmezz i hear is fantastic. one of the aforementioned sisters asked me on a scale of one to ten how hard i cried. i replied, "46." it cuts you deep, but it's so brilliant and powerful and by all means a necessary piece of theater. do yourself a favor and give it a looksee

this show is fly

look at them eyes!!!

i'm a fan of these fly mothers

double act

in which no one does number 17, the spread-eagle (if you get that reference i commend you)

singing in not english is odd. it is nothing like speaking nonenglish. if you look hard enough, the other song of note from this show is on youtube somewhere. with me singing. but it's not good. neither is this, but maybe you'll enjoy it.

this one's for a certain assistente of mine...

here's your art:

BUTIYBUYITBUYIT
actually, that's not quite fair, but it's for Lin! he's worth it!
plus half the spanish isn't in the show anymore, and i think you should hear it

Entr'acte

well, for having been so excited about this at first, maybe taking a week off was the wrong way to celebrate.
i'll do funny then fun.

so a friend and i were chilling between classes, and she started singing a line of some song. i immediately figured it out and joined in. she mentioned that i sounded quite like the daughter character. when the mother voice came around, i kept singing, and she flipped. apparently my imitation is decent?

let's see what you think
i did some sethalicious renderings, but here's just a plain old jam. you can tell i just didn't feel like sleeping

here it goes again

i talked so much about my blog that i would probably be killed if i don't keep it up now. i also just feel like doing something. i have barely begun my work, i've been reminiscing about cherubs, chatting with old friends, the like. it's a hard life. but enough banter

go look it up. i dig it....i'm certainly not the only one who does. believe it or not there are definitely times when that is the case. i have some obscure favorite people, shows, songs, i prefer stephen schwartz pre-wicked, you get it. there's enough room on broadway for everyone's opinion.

here's your pictures

and here is one of the melchiors (bway and your, winner of the most improved award) singin it on his album. which actually has a really nice bounce to it so check him out

now where's that calc hw...

this is the dawning!

make what you will of it. this could be fun!

and so that i can expand YOUR musical interests, here's the album art :)
