i adore the show it is from. while i will never be in it (because i cannot dance to save my life), i love to sing it! the songs are mor real than a lot of other musicals out there, and the story is about people like me and you. you know, actors. :)
enjoy!
oh yeah, it's from A Chorus Line. the role is based on the FABULOUS PLo-Priscilla Lopez, who is one of the most talented people i have ever met. also she is a broadway BAMF in evrey sense of the word.
this is where it's at.
the old:

and the new.

both are great. while i adore my cast (the new one), there is something really special about this OBC. i mean they are the very people it's based on. those hours of tape that michael bennet took of them are the very foundation of this show.
on that topic, this is one case (who am i kidding i always say this! except about chicago. that movie is brilliant beyond words.) where i really implore you not to watch the movie. i really don't think the lives of stage actors can be encompassed in film, especially not this show. it is so rooted in the lives and struggles of theater people, and the stage is such an important medium for it. that just gets lost.
HOWEVER, I ABOSOLUTELY RECOMMEND YOU SEE "EVERY LITTLE STEP," which is a breathtaking documentary of the audition process for the broadway revival of this show. they literally did the first cutting down based on "walk in, do two pirouettes, walk out." it's AMAZING, it's real, it's passionate, it's brilliant.
my favorite part is seeing who they didn't take. among the favorites were then-dancer andy blankenbuehler (who despite not being cast in a chorus line now has a shiny tony award for choreographing In The Heights), Amy Spanger, Niki Snelson (these names only make sense if you speak broadway), alll these people turned away, who we know to be stars. it proves like Diana says in the song, that if you want something, go find a better CAST! :)
that's enough from me. the having-no-voice makes me type so much. i'm just a communicator, what can i say.
OKDONEBYE
